Comparing PHP with other languages

Chris Shiflett posted some thoughts on PHP and Ruby on Rails which has generated some interesting discussion. Chris divides programming languages into two categories:

Flexible and powerful: PHP, C, C++, and Perl.
Structured and organized: Java, Ruby, and ASP.NET.

Manual Memory Management is Dead

Joel Spolsky’s How Microsoft Lost the API War is a good read. I think he is spot on about managed-memory languages. Thats a job that computers are better at than people and our computers are fast enough to handle it.
