Decline of Google

May 3rd, 2004

I had an interesting conversation with my aunt this weekend. She is a genealogy buff who works at the University of Michigan law library. She complained about how she has found that Google’s search results are declining in quality. Specifically, she complained about the sites that were spamming google with randomly generated non sense phrases and then re-directing her to porn. She says she now recommends diversifying searching to other search sites and suggested that she is getting better results from other sites, including Yahoo. Perhaps Google has timed their IPO at the top of the inflection point for their search business?
