Modularity

April 26th, 2004

I enjoy reading manageability which today brought some good news on the subject of software commoditization in Modularity and conservation of profits. Could it be that the software sky is not falling? Carlos Perez links together three interesting items to suggest that it is not: The Natural History of Software Platforms, 640KB ought to be enough for anyone and Situated Software.

Comments in Six Operators of Modularity prompted me to add the books The Sciences of the Artificial and Design Rules, Vol. 1: The Power of Modularity to my ever-growing Amazon.com wishlist. Although, I don’t find the six operators very compelling, nor Bertrand Meryer’s definition as discussed in Questioning Meyer’s Definition of Modularity.
